Chapter 6
He looked up a last time at the now night sky, filled with bright stars and the full moon. The kind lady in the moon winked at him and blew him a kiss.
“I’ll come back,” he told her, and then he crawled down into his underground cottage with the star-shaped door painted with an “A” for Alexander. Two of his friends heard him open the door, and came to meet him.
“Where were you?” asked Fiedler the carpenter and Takum tool-maker.
“I went up Above.”
“Tell us all about it,” said Fiedler.
So they all settled around the fire in the brass fireplace with cups of spruce tea and acorn pancakes made from the items Alexander had collected on his journey to the Sun. Yum. Yum. Alexander told them all about the spirits of flowers, trees, dragonflies, waters, and all the other friends he met.
“The most beautiful was Serene, who floated through the waves. Her hand felt like a kiss.”
“Thank you so much for the stories,” his friends said. “Perhaps we’ll come next time.”
They all said good-night and sleep tight and headed for their beds. That night Alexander dreamed about floating across the waves with the beautiful Serene.
