Nisa Nature
The Story of Nisa Nature
With a BA from Oberlin College in English and Creative Writing and an MA in Education, specialization Dance, from George Washington University, Nisa grew up with a love for Creative Expression through the Arts using themes inspired by knowledge of Nature. Her father, botanist, microbiologist, and bird-lover, taught about the plants and birds in Pennsylvania, the Smoky Mountains, across the US, and Europe. Her mother, botanist and environmentalist, brought her on hikes throughout Appalachia, the Western States, and Europe.
Since 1992, Ms. Montie has been inspiring children and their families to experience Nature’s Kingdoms through the expressive arts in classes and live shows (including performances at the National Zoo) in four states, the District of Columbia, and India. In 2003 she created the pilot for her Nisa Nature’s Adventures TV series. Her Nisa Nature’s Adventures CD of 14 original nature songs is available for sale.
She is very excited about being a graduate of the Enchanted Walkabout Facilitator Training program (2009) with John Springer’s Fairy And Earth School. The resulting new program for Outdoors Education is helping all ages to find the magic in nature, discover the fairy realm, and care for our planet Earth.
Nisa honors all her teachers from various spiritual traditions including Judeo-Christian, Vedic, Celtic, and North and South Native American.
The Purpose of Nisa Nature’s Programs
Through this website with its written stories, songs, and videos, as well as through live playshops and classes, Nisa reminds participants of their oneness with the natural world through joyful and creative experiences, thus encouraging the natural interest in caring for ourselves and our planet Earth in a balanced way.
Utilizing all the senses, and thus increasing synapse connections in the brain, Nisa Nature facilitates participants creating song, movement, and art so that each person can experience his/her unique connection with the Natural World. Nature facts and ecological awareness inform each session. Themes are also derived from the animal, plant, and mineral kingdoms, the realm of the Elementals, and from the nature of our solar system or galaxy.
