Chapter 4

“I will.” Katie continued on her way, crossing over a little bridge.  As she moved slowly over the stony sides across a stream, she saw a fawn come for a drink.

“Hello, fawn. My name’s Katie. What’s yours?” The baby deer looked around.

          “Where are you?” she asked.

“Right here on the side of this old, stone bridge.” The fawn bent her neck and put her eyes close to Katie.

“Oh, there you are. Hi, Ms. Caterpillar. My real name is Felicia Fawn. Everyone calls me Ms. Curious, because I nose everything and wonder about everything.”

“Nice to meet you,  Ms. Curious.  I am listening to everyone’s songs to remind me of my own. Do you have a special song?”

“Let me listen.” Curious bent her head to the side and waved her short, white tail. Then she leaped over the stream and leaped back again. She took another drink and shook the droplets from her lips. Then she sang:

Felicia Fawn’s Song

I jump here and there ‘cross the stream,

Dip my muzzle in the water for a drink.

I bound in the air like a dream.

Sweet Innocence rules how I think.

I’m just a little fawn playing,

With just a little tune you can sing,

And just a little lesson I’m saying:

Sweet Innocence gives my hoofs wings.

                        Never worry and never hurry,

                        I let my curiosity reign.

                        Following my heart’s pure desires,

“Be Happy” is what my heart proclaims.

“Wow, Felicia. What a happy-go-lucky song! Thank you for sharing.” Katie told her new deer friend.

“You are welcome. That was a fun romp with words,” Felicia said, doing a little prance with her legs.”

“Your tiny hoofs are perfect for dancing a jig or leaping in the air. Speaking of dancing and leaping, I’m hungry.  It’s time to find a leaf to munch.”

“I’m off to find a bit of clover. See you again, Katie.”

“Righteo, Felicia.”
